Holsters Make Firearms Safer

If you own a firearm, then you know that you just can’t carry it around with you without any kind of case or holster. That’s just not done. Some gun-related accidents happen only because gun owners refuse to take the basic safety precautions. It doesn’t matter if it looks cool; shoving your unsheathed gun in the waistband of your pants just isn’t safe. Holsters are created for the sole purpose of sheathing your firearm when not in use.

Many models are designed to fit a range of factory equipped handguns and are available in a variety of designs and materials, including pocket and paddle holsters.  Whatever your handgun’s dimensions are, there’s a holster that it can fit in. To make sure that your holster fits your handgun, test-fit it while it’s unloaded.

New Easing of Gun Laws

concealment holsters

As their name suggests, concealment holsters are designed to keep your firearm out of sight. While this may only seem like a concern for law enforcement agents and criminals, there are many other citizens who carry firearms legally. As per the Second Amendment, states will issue a concealed weapons permit to citizens with a clean background check.

There has been recent debate over legislation that will allow people to bring guns to national parks and on Amtrak rides. While opponents of the bills say that there will be an increase in violence, others argue that those who want to use a gun for harm will do so regardless of the law. They claim that the new laws will simply allow responsible gun owners to carry their firearms.

The Personal Arsenal

ankle holster

It seems like gun use in action movies is nearly ubiquitous. With the exception of a few old-fashioned films, superhero flicks or ninja movies, firearms are the weapon of choice for villains and heroes alike. One of my favorite parts of these action flicks is when the characters go through their pre-battle montage.

These scenes usually feature tough men and women arming themselves to the teeth with every weapon imaginable. There are inevitably automatic machine guns, hundreds of rounds of ammo, and even the occasional rocket launcher. I always find it somewhat amusing when the characters slide a pistol into an ankle holster after going through the rest of their in-depth preparations.

shoulder holsters

Everyone who carries a firearm needs a reliable and accessible way to conceal their weapon. Traditional gun holsters are a practical option, but they often leave the gun visible to the public. For people who need to keep their weapon concealed, such as undercover cops, a more discreet option is needed.

From my research watching numerous movies and television shows with undercover agents, I’ve observed that shoulder holsters are the holder of choice. These carriers are well-concealed, but still leave the firearm easily accessible. Most models will even carry two handguns at a time.

Unwavering Western Love

cowboy holsters

Personally, I could never really get into old-style Western movies and the classic children’s game of cowboys and Indians. My dad, on the other hand, is an avid watcher of all sorts of cowboy films and can recite many John Wayne monologues verbatim. Although I despise them, I will sometimes appease my dad and watch an old western when I am with him.

When I was little he was more adamant about me developing an affinity for the Western culture. For Halloween one year he bought me a cowboy outfit, complete with boots, hat and cowboy holsters. I told him I would wear the costume, but when I got to my friend’s house, I changed into Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What the Pros Wear

paddle holster

Traditional holsters that attach to the belt or wrap around the shoulder offer great security for your firearm, but it can be a painstaking process to take them on and off. Professionals who are constantly changing clothes and vehicles, such as detectives, need a mobile holster that is quick and easy to remove. A paddle holster is the ideal option for these individuals.

This holster has a concave shape that goes over pants and stays in place using friction from your body. Generally composed of plastic or stiffened leather, these durable holsters are perfect for people who don’t wear a belt. The obvious disadvantage is that they lack the physical security that a shoulder or belt holster offers.

Various Types of Holsters

Those who wish to conceal their firearms for one reason or another have a bevy of options; holsters can be located on the shoulder, on the belt, or even around the ankles. Shoulder holsters fit around the body in a manner similar to a backpack. In order to draw a gun located in a shoulder holster, an individual needs to reach around the front of his body with his strong hand.

Ankle holsters, while especially useful for concealing weapons, can feel bulky and strange. It’s not always practical to have cumbersome weight clinging around one’s limbs. Pocket holsters, quite understandably, remain the classic way to carry pistols. They can be drawn at a moment’s notice, attracting little attention in the process.

Check Before You Purchase a Gun as a Gift

If you know someone that’s interested in the world of guns or other concealed weapons, you are lucky on the gift front. There are so many different items you could purchase that person in order to enhance or further their existing collection of gun products. If you actually want to purchase them a gun, just make sure that you jump through the appropriate legal red tape.

For one, it’s your responsibility to make sure that person can legally own a firearm. You will be subjected to the rigorous background check, but that doesn’t mean the other person is exempt from these standards. In general, familiarize yourself with the laws as they apply to your state. If you have any questions, always ask beforehand. And if you’re still unsure or uncomfortable about the purchase, you can also purchase something such as a gun holster. With holsters, there are no potential ramifications, and it will still make a thoughtful gift.

What is a Pancake Holster?

What is a Pancake Holster?

For anyone interested in gun ownership and gun slinging, holsters are probably a fairly familiar product. For these people, terms like pancake holster and paddle holster make perfect sense. But for people that aren’t so versed in these firearm accessories, it can be confusing trying to sort out exactly what each specific holster offers over other models. With that in mind, here are some of the basic characteristics of a pancake holster.

While they might sound like something that should be served at the breakfast table, pancake holsters are actually named as such because of their particular silhouette. They offer a very flat outline, drawing the obvious comparison to a pancake. The holster is created with two pieces of leather, which form a kind of pocket for the gun to slip into. Compared to the wraparound holster, it is generally considered sleeker and flatter, and therefore better for concealment.

Leaning the Basics of Holsters

Leaning the Basics of Holsters

A holster can be understood as any product meant to hold or contain the unwanted movement of another item. Arguably the most common product for a holster is a gun, but they are also useful for objects such as a cell phone. The idea behind a holster is that you can make any small object safe as well as readily available to you. This is the case whether you’re using a gun or cell phone.

Because you want to protect whatever object is in the holster, it is best if that holster is durable and well made. For this reason, one of the most common materials used is leather. These leather holsters offer the stiffness desired, but they have the added benefit of being aesthetically appealing. They can be dyed many different colors, and they can also be embellished with embossing. Many people also find these holsters attractive if they are left plain.
